Federal Budget Extends the Carry Forward on Ecologically Sensitve Lands

The Canadian Land Trust Alliance has long advocated for an increase in the carry-forward period to 10 years for gifts of ecologically sensitive land pursuant to the Ecological Gifts Program and a National Conservation Plan.

As part of the conserving Canada's natural heritage, the federal government has announced changes to protect ecologically sensitive land under the Ecological Gifts Program. Minister Flaherty has decided to extend the carry forward period for claiming the tax credit related to donations of ecologically sensitive lands to 10 years. You can find more information about this measure in Annex 2 on page 332.

The 2013 Speech from the Throne announced that the Government would act to protect Canada’s rich natural heritage through a new National Conservation Plan to further increase protected areas, focusing on stronger marine and coastal conservation. Details regarding the Plan, which will build on the measures proposed in Economic Action Plan 2014, will be announced in the coming months.
