This is the time of year when every gardener pours over the latest edition of the seed catalogue in order to plan their summer gardens. Saturday February 16th is the annual Seedy Saturday in Victoria. This is a community event with commerce, education and networking opportunities. You can buy seeds directly from the growers. Google for other Seedy Saturdays in your area.

It was still good yesterday but I guess each day they clear the archive and today the october 25th interview was removed. However, you can still read the Times Colonist article here.

Our November Gala will feature delicious tapas from Chef Dwane MacIsaac. Since 2010, Dwane has been President of The Island Chef's Collaborative that supports local farmers through fundraising and grant programs. Read more about it here.

The US has just announced a proposal to list the Taylor's Checkerspot Butterfly on the endangered list. Historically, this butterfly occurred in BC, Washington and Oregon. It was first described by W.H. Edwards, a noted American entomologist, in 1888 from specimens collected in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria.

Our photo contest is officially wrapped up with the announcement of our Grand Prize Winner Trina Davies. We feel that her amazing photo of Dunn Lake best represents our amazing province and its natural beauty. For her efforts, Trina will receive a special journal along with a copy of Islands in the Salish Sea.Â
